A new way to become a GDEIB Certified Practitioner and demonstrate your expertise

Beginning in May 2026, you can master the Gold Standard of DEI benchmarks at the times that work best for your schedule, with up to three weeks to complete the program. 

The self-paced edition of the program is for you if…

  • You prefer to learn at your own pace rather than in scheduled sessions,

For over 30 years, this internationally acclaimed tool has helped leaders and DEI professionals from thousands of organizations develop and execute effective, sustainable strategies. The IDD is proud to have been invited to be the official certifying body for the GDEIB.

The GDEIB (Global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Benchmarks) is a comprehensive model and tool designed to help organizations implement and improve their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices.

Co-authored by Nene Molefi, Dr. Alan Richter, and Julie O’Mara — with inputs from 112 Expert Panellists from around the world — it features a 15-category framework, each with five levels of organizational DEI mindset and programming maturity, for a total of 275 benchmarks.

HOW TO APPLY

To apply, follow these steps:

  1. Fill out the application form, indicating your experience in the field, your familiarity with the GDEIB, and why you seek certification.
  2. If accepted for Cohort 1, you will be notified on or before August 15, 2025.
  3. Upon acceptance, in order to finalize your registration, you will need to submit payment as indicated in the instructions. Enrollment is not considered complete and you will not be able to access program content until full payment is received. Your program admission may be revoked if payment is not received by the date indicated in the instructions.

SEVEN STEPS TO CERTIFICATION

Here's all you need to start the process, gain insights and become recognized for your mastery of the GDEIB.

Apply - Share your motivation, experience and qualifications. Register - At least two weeks prior to the start date or you may forfeit your spot. Pre-program assessment - This assessment will unlock the rest of the program content. Self-study assignments - 3 self-study chapters that the in-person lessons will build on. Live sessions - Attend and participate in 3 expert instructor-led sessions. Qualifying assessment - Complete a timed online exam measuring your mastery. Post-Program evaluation - Shape the future of the GDEIB.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Hands-on practical insights for active practitioners – Learn how to use the GDEIB tool to assess the state of diversity, equity and inclusion in your workplace / with your clients and how to interpret the results to make strategic recommendations for measurable progress.

Relatable real world applications Our case study-based learning approach shows you how the GDEIB is used in actual workplaces and organizations — and how you can do the same, adapting it to your circumstances.

Focused content – The program is divided into four modules, highlighting the comprehensive nature of the GDEIB as well as demonstrating how you can use it either in its entirety or modularly depending on your needs.

Online format – Self study + live sessions – The program duration is 16 hours to be completed over a 1-week course period. This includes:

  • USE GRAPHIC INSTEAD 7 hours of self-study on our online platform beginning on the Monday of your program week, continuing through that Thursday.
  • 8 hours of live instruction with your fellow cohort members as led by an expert facilitator on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • 1 hour of timed assessment on Thursday or Friday to demonstrate your mastery of content and insights gained, with a passing score required for certification.

Membership in the GDEIB CP Community – Once you have successfully completed the program, passed the qualifying examination, and submitted your program feedback, you’ll be invited to connect with other official Certified Practitioners, Expert Panelists, and Friends of the GDEIB for online and in-person events throughout the year. 

Your uniquely assigned digital badge –  Upon successful completion on the program and qualifying examination, your official individual digital badge to showcase your competence and mastery of GDEIB principles and methods. Use these official credentials in your business communications so clients and peers recognize your expertise. Credentials are renewable after 3 years.

Who runs the GDEIB Practitioner Certification program?

The program is offered by the Institute for Developing Across Differences (IDD), in partnership with GDEIB Co-Authors Nene Molefi and Dr. Alan Richter. The IDD is responsible for designing and delivering the program, facilitating the live sessions, and supporting participants throughout their certification journey. Learn more about the IDD.

What is the program cost, and are there financial support options available?

The standard program fee at this time is USD2000. We recognize that financial circumstances vary. If cost is a barrier to your participation, we encourage you to reach out to us. We are open to exploring options that may make it possible for you to join. 

How are the program fees used?

Your program fee helps sustain and grow the GDEIB tool and certification process and supports the continued development of high-quality learning experiences. Fees also cover the costs of the online learning platform, the experienced facilitators who lead the sessions, and the dedicated administrative team that ensures the smooth running of the program. What languages is the program available in?

At this time, the program is only offered in English . We are exploring the possibility of offering additional languages in the future. If you have a group of 5 or more colleagues who would like to undertake certification in a different language, contact us at certification@iddifferences.org. 

Who leads the Live Sessions?

Our live sessions are facilitated by experienced senior facilitators and DEI practitioners. They bring deep knowledge, practical experience, and an inclusive approach to guiding participants through the GDEIB certification program.

Can we book an entire cohort for our organization or team?

Absolutely. If you’re interested in organizing a dedicated session for your team or group on preferred dates, please contact us. We’ll be happy to provide a custom group offer.

How many practitioners are in a cohort?

Cohorts range from groups of 5 to 12 participants. We reserve the right to reschedule or refund if enrollment is below 5 participants.

ASSESSMENT & CERTIFICATION
What is required for certification?

Certification is contingent upon:

  1. Completing a pre-program assessment using the online platform.
  2. Completing all self-study content / assignments using the online platform.
  3. Attending and participating in the entirety of all live online sessions.
  4. Passing the qualifying assessment examination (75 or more of 100 points).
  5. Submitting a brief post-program evaluation survey.
What happens if I don’t pass the final qualification assessment (certification examination)?

If you do not pass the final assessment, you can retake the exam once by paying an administrative fee of USD250

How long is the certification good for?

Your certification (and certification badge) is valid for three (3) years. You may apply for re-certification at that time using the latest GDEIB edition.

How do I get my unique identifying GDEIB Certified Practitioner badge / badge number?

Once you successfully complete the program and post-program evaluation, you will be assigned a unique certification badge to display / share as a part of your professional credentials.

Logistics
How do I apply? When will I know if I have been accepted?

Fill out the application form, indicating your experience in the field, your familiarity with the GDEIB, and why you seek certification. If accepted for Cohort 1, you will be notified on or before August 18, 2025.

When is the registration deadline?

Registration is open on a rolling basis and closes once all spots in a cohort are filled. We will post the late 2025 and 2026 schedule soon. Add your name to the waiting list by sending an email to certification@iddifferences.org.

What is the cancellation policy?

We do not offer cancellations. However, we understand that plans can change—please see our transfer policy below for flexible options.

Can I transfer to a different cohort if my availability changes?

We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise. If another published date works better for you, you may request a transfer to a future cohort, subject to availability.

What is the time commitment for the program?

The certification program is designed to be completed within one week and requires you dedicate 16 hours of time to it. It includes 8 hours of live sessions (including Qualifying Assessment Examination completion) and an estimated 8 hours of self-study, including reading, reflection, and exam preparation.

What are the technical requirements to participate?

To join the program, you’ll need a reliable internet connection, full audio and video access to Zoom, and the ability to use an online learning platform that we will make available to you. We also recommend joining the live sessions from a quiet space

Are recordings of Live Sessions available?

No. Active participation in the Live Sessions is a core requirement for successful completion and certification. Recordings are not provided.

What times of day are the Live Sessions?

Live Session times vary depending on the cohort. We offer different options to accommodate our global audiences. Be sure to check what the times are (listed in GMT) in your time zone when you apply.

All applications require a $500 deposit for consideration.

THIS PAYMENT IS A FIRST INSTALLMENT Payment does not guarantee program acceptance. Your application will be reviewed by the Institute. If it is accepted, then the course fee balance is due in full no later than two (2) weeks before the program start date in order to be enrolled and participate in the program.

If for any reason you are accepted into the program and do not complete your registration / payment on or before the registration due date, this fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Please see our cancellation policy. If for any reason you are not accepted into the program, the IDD will refund your deposit in full.
